Finding Warmth in a World
Running on Caffeine
For anyone who could use a moment to slow down.
A seat at the table. A little warmth.

THE BOOK

Why does a cup of hot chocolate feel like coming home?
For John Eicke, the answer leads back to a green marbled kitchen table, a small act of kindness, and the feeling of being cared for without having to earn it.
Through stories from showroom floors, the stage, and life after seven surgeries, John explores the pressure to keep going—and the people and moments that remind us we can pause.
Part personal reflection, part invitation to sit awhile, this is a book about the warmth we receive and the warmth we can offer.
FROM THE PAGES
“Coffee asks, ‘What’s next?’
Hot chocolate asks,
‘Can you stay a minute?’”

CHAPTERS 10–11TAKE A MOMENT
An excerpt from chapter one
I’ve spent a lot of time asking myself a strange question:
Why do I like Hot Chocolate better than Coffee?
Now on the surface, that sounds almost ridiculous.
A drink preference.
That’s all.
Maybe taste.
Maybe habit.
Maybe one of those harmless little quirks people collect as they move through life.
But somewhere along the way, I realized I wasn’t really asking about drinks at all.
I was asking about warmth.
And maybe…
how not to break.
Because if you look closely—not just at the flavor, but at the feeling—Hot Chocolate and Coffee are almost two completely different philosophies wearing the same mug.
We live in a Coffee world.
You know the feeling.
Fast conversations.
Fast decisions.
Fast food.
Fast opinions.
Coffee energy.
It’s the entrepreneur sitting in a crowded café planning world domination before breakfast.
It’s the late-night brainstorming session where everybody talks faster than they can think.
It’s movement.
And to be fair?
There’s nothing wrong with movement.
Coffee gets things started.
It wakes people up.
Gets the gears turning.
Puts fuel in the tank.
I understand the appeal.
Hell… I lived inside that frequency for years.
